Between Two Worlds - 2025

This drawing is a product of my love for architecture and fantasy combined. I challenged myself to design two fantasy cities and make them as detailed as possible. Both cities include fantasy elements such as high, narrow walkways on arches, impossibly tall and thin towers, palaces, and elevated spaces overlooking the urban landscapes.

The two cities are connected by large chains holding lanterns that illuminate them equally in the dark night. They exist as two worlds, similar in design and almost close enough to touch, yet separated by a vast sea of darkness. In the space between them, a decaying whale continues to swim through nothingness, observing a floating naked figure. The whale appears either unaware or unbothered by its decomposing state. At times, we as humans continue forward regardless of how hurt or broken we may be. There is a quiet persistence in the whale as it approaches the floating figure, creating a tense yet deeply human moment framed by the two vast cities.

In this work, I try to express the feeling of being overwhelmed by the beauty and scale of endless human-made cities, while yearning for the spaces in between where things are quiet and time seems to pause. These are the places where I feel most at peace but also where, to me, the most meaningful moments and conversations happen.

Introspection - 2024

A homage to Relativity by M.C. Escher, one of my favorite artists. This work explores the combination of multiple perspectives within a single composition. The goal was to create a drawing that could be rotated and still appear structurally believable from different angles. By merging these viewpoints, I aimed to construct an artwork that could be enjoyed anew each time the perspective is changed.

With this work I try to reflect on the mind as a complex labyrinth. The unchanging stone stairways and structures represent the stagnation of ingrained thoughts, often the result of years of habit and the loss of mental flexibility. In contrast, the wooden ladders symbolize our capacity for growth and innovation, offering the potential to gain new insights. This is an adventurous journey inward, where you learn to accept and love the strange beauty and challenges of your inner world.

This was one of my most technically demanding works. Constructing a composition that makes sense across three perspectives required me to draw less freely than I'm used to. Each section was developed in pencil and then fixed with fineliner before moving forward, building the image incrementally to avoid losing coherence within the overlapping perspectives. The construction of this work gave me multiple headaches as I struggled to develop something that made sense but also looked interesting to me. To further emphasis the different perspective of the composition, I included personal and symbolic elements such as my avatar, the raven, a turtle, as well as furniture, ladders and everyday objects. These elements act as anchors within the shifting architectural space.

On The Shoulders Of Gentle Giants- 2024

I have always been fascinated by the idea of turtles carrying entire cities on their backs. With this work, I tried to visualize exactly that: an ancient city, built on the back of a colossal turtle, traveling with serene determination through the infinity of our universe. Where does this epic journey lead? The answer can be found in the calm, yet resolute gaze of this impressive, gentle giant.

This work continues my exploration of escapism and imagined worlds. It reflects a moment of solitude in a remote mountainous landscape, a setting of both harshness and calm. In this imagined experience, that quiet reality is interrupted by the appearance of an ancient turtle carrying an entire civilization across space. The encounter becomes a point of rupture, reshaping perception and questioning the boundaries of what is possible.

There is also the question of how we as humans would react to such a being appearing in our world. When confronted with a being of such a massive scale, would we show it more respect than its smaller kin inhabiting our polluted and plastic-filled oceans? I hope so, but I can’t help but fear the opposite.

Waiting On The Emerald Shore - 2024

The scent of salt hangs heavy on the wind as the waves relentlessly crash against the quay wall. Every day we gather here, scanning the horizon with a quiet anticipation. The endless pounding of the waves keeps us company. This ritual illustrates the human tendency to romanticize and claim everything around us. We dream of the sea; we project our stories onto it. Yet, this immense, unfathomable ocean remains indifferent. The sea does not dream of us. An artwork based on the quote: "The sea does not dream of you," by writer Steven Erikson.

For me, this relationship with the sea is deeply personal. While living in Ireland, I often walked along the shoreline, finding comfort in the rhythm of the waves and the salt in the air. I have always been drawn to the ocean, especially the shifting colours revealed when sunlight hits waves breaking against cliffs and shorelines. Being on a boat evokes a similar feeling, both exhilarating and calming, where smallness and vulnerability are balanced by a sense of protection within a fragile vessel surrounded by immense natural forces.

I too romanticise the sea and find myself drawn to her, yet this affection is never returned. The sea does not dream of me. I am only a small human within the vastness of nature, and to me there is a quiet peace in that realization.

Amidst Stormy Seas - 2023

This piece, Amidst Stormy Seas, is inspired by the Poolbeg Lighthouse in Dublin, Ireland. After moving to Dublin, I was inspired by some of the beautifull spots hidden within the city and its surroundings. At the same time, I was dealing with burnout and stress related to my bachelor thesis. My experience of settling into Ireland felt like navigating through a storm, where the focus was simply on surviving. Finding stability, a safe space, and a healthier rhythm to grow again became the lighthouse I envisioned in this work. A stable factor that I visited many times on foot to help find peace in a busy city.

At times, life feels like survival, where reaching a place of safety becomes a narrow path through the stormy darkness in my mind. You move forward with the belief that eventually a light will appear to guide you. Through the ages, lighthouses have served as beacons of safety for ships and sailors at sea, to me they brought the same comfort.

A Raven Witnesses - 2023 (Original), 2026 (Digital Edits)

This work explores the passage of time, decay, and the inevitable transformation of everything we build. The raven observes the remains of a once powerful city, indifferent to its fall, knowing that even its ruins may eventually become the foundation for something new. The piece was created as an escape into a fantasy world while reflecting on feelings of uncertainty, isolation, and the fear of living without leaving anything meaningful behind.

The original composition presents a vast fantasy landscape where architecture slowly returns to dust, with the raven perched on a large golden key as a symbol of knowledge, guidance, and acceptance. The digital edits shift the focus towards the raven itself, creating a quieter scene where the bird becomes the central figure: an ancient mythical witness bringing calm in the face of impermanence.

The Broken Gate - 2022

Inspired by the need we sometimes feel to escape into another world, this piece explores the desire to walk away from everything familiar and step into a different reality where anything feels possible. At times, even the most comforting places can feel distant, as life keeps pulling at our attention and grounding us firmly in the everyday world.

An adventurer moves toward a massive, alien gate rising from cool sands, leaving faint footprints behind. The structure suggests a portal of some kind, yet it now stands weathered and broken. Scattered across the landscape are the remains of what appear to be giants, hinting at a long forgotten struggle. What happened here so many years ago to leave this silent aftermath remains unknown.

The adventurer continues forward under the quiet watch of a small red lizard, as if nothing in this place is entirely without witness. Even so, no matter how distant these imagined worlds may feel at times, we find our way back to them. They remain places of quiet refuge, remembered and revisited when we need them most.

And when we walk those cool sands again under a gentle moon, when we look up into calm obsidian skies filled with stars, when we imagine the next journey and the places still ahead, there is a sense of freedom waiting there, if only for a fleeting moment.

The Lonely Realm - 2021

In this realm, everyone is confined to their own tiny platform, carrying everything they need to survive. These isolated islands drift through an endless emptiness, with their inhabitants hoping to pass by someone or something that sparks a moment of connection. Yet even when they do encounter another traveler or something interesting, they are unable to leave their own platform for too long, ultimately having to return soon.

This piece reflects a period when I was living alone during the pandemic, when my room sometimes felt like its own small world. The chaotic composition mirrors the way I experienced that time and perhaps also how the world itself seemed to feel: unpredictable, fragmented and difficult to navigate.

There was a strange contradiction in feeling both free and trapped at once. I was living in a new city, surrounded by possibilities, yet unable to truly explore it. Instead, I had to find moments of comfort within my own space and within myself.

This drawing is for Geert. Pleasant journeys, my friend. You are missed.

Ravenflight - 2025

This is an animation made of twelve hand drawn frames of a raven flying across a fantasy background. In this project, I studied the movement and anatomy of ravens and crows to create a more natural, hand drawn style.

I have a strong love for animation, especially the hand drawn work from the eighties and nineties. To me, those films carry a sense of soul, where you can feel the dedication in every frame. In contrast, modern CGI and large scale animation can sometimes feel so smooth and flawless that it loses a bit of its human touch and relatability.

With this work, I am trying to reconnect with that feeling. I will continue creating small animations like this alongside other projects as a personal passion.
