Hi I'm Jan Water
Drawing is much more than just a hobby for me, it's how I find peace and organize my thoughts. My artworks are a reflection of this journey. I combine a dreamy, imaginative style with more technical, introspective drawings. By bringing these two worlds together, I hope to create unique and inspiring art. My ultimate goal is simple: To make people happy with unique works that encourage reflection.
Purpose
Art has always been my way of understanding the world and myself. Each drawing begins as a reflection of my thoughts and emotions, helping me see my inner world and my surroundings more clearly. Over time, this personal process has grown into something I want to share and hopefully ignite a spark of curiosity for those who see my artwork.
Using my skills as an artist to create something meaningful gives me a deep sense of purpose. The world can be a challenging place, and finding your place in it is not always easy. It is something I still struggle with, but creating art allows me to add something of value to the world, something that feels truly my own. This Dark Water Galleries project pushes me to the limits of my creativity while offering something in return to others. To be able to pursue this passion for a living is my dream and a purpose I am proud to dedicate myself to.
Process
Things usually start with a thought, a feeling, or an idea that I want to explore. Sometimes it is an exercise in perspective or an intricate architectural detail. Other times, it is simply a mood or a fantasy world that I want to bring to life. I draw everything by hand, using pencils, fineliners, Copic markers, and other tools to create detailed, handcrafted pieces. I draw wherever inspiration strikes, whether in the pub, on my break at work, on the train, or at home late into the night.
Each piece can take anywhere between 20 and 100 hours to complete. Once a drawing feels finished, I digitize it, make adjustments, and prepare it for printing. I leave some imperfections as they are, because they remind me that the work is human. In my opinion, nothing is perfect and nothing should be.
Through this process, I turn my thoughts into something tangible. It is a patient, creative journey that transforms each idea into a piece of art that others can connect with.
Product
The result of my work is a carefully crafted art print that captures every detail, color, and intention behind the original drawing. I work closely with my printer to ensure that each print reflects the same care and precision that went into the artwork.
Each print is made to feel authentic and special. An art piece that people can proudly display in their homes. Whether it hangs in a living room, bedroom, or even the smallest corner of the house, it means a lot to me to know that someone chooses to make my work part of their personal space.
